Blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum L.) is a species of edible berry originated from central/northern Europe and Asia It is also called "cassis" in French.
The ripe fruits have a black color and a 1cm diameter, which have been used in jams, juices, wines and so on in Europe for many years. The blackcurrant flavored liqueur "Creme de Cassis" is very famous in the world.
Blackcurrant fruits mainly contain cyanidin-3-rutinoside (C3R) and delphinidin-3-rutinoside (D3R), which are the characteristic components of blackcurrant and not found in blueberries. It was suggested that C3R can stimulate regeneration of rhodopsin, which is a pigment of the retina responsible for both the formation of the photoreceptor cells and the first events in the perception of light.

Chondroitin 80

Health food/ Squid Cartilage extract/ Mucopolysaccharide/White to whitish powder

■Characteristics：
・Without unpleasing taste and odor
・Suitable for cosmetic, nutraceutical and food applications
・High content
・High cost-performance

■Origin：
Squid cartilage

■Present For Aging Society
・Chondroitin Sulfate ：
Chondroitin sulfate belongs to a family of heteropolysaccharides called glycosaminoglycans (GAGs, formerly known as mucopolysaccharides).
GAGs in the form of proteoglycans comprise the ground substance in the extracellular matrix of connective tissue. It is found in humans in cartilage, bone, cornea, brain, skin and the arterial wall.

・Chondroitin Sulfate Benefits Persons With Osteoarthritis：
In osteoarthritis, the cushion-like tissue, cartilage becomes worn and thin, and eventually loses their protection and shock absorbance properties that protect the bones in the joint concerned.
Osteoarthritis is second only to cardiovascular disease as the cause of chronic disability in adults. One-third of all American adults have X-ray evidence of osteoarthritis of the hand, foot, knee, or hip. As Baby Boomers age, the number of people suffering from osteoarthritis is expected to rapidly increase in the next 10 years.
Chondroitin sulfate was found for the first time from cartilage, and named "chondroitin" after the Greek word meaning "cartilage". It has been reported that chondroitin sulfate can inhibit cartilage breakdown and stimulate the growth of new cartilage.

・Chondroitin Sulfate From Squid Cartilage：
With so much attention to BSE, influenza virus and fishing limit, squid cartilage is considered to be the best source for chondroitin sulfate.
The amount of squid landing is estimated to reach 3 millons tons every year.

Oversulfated chondroitin sulfate E is the major component of squid cartilage, which has not been found in the land animals.

Chondroitin sulfate E is also expected to treat Alzheimer's disease due to its neurite outgrowth promoting activity.

Glycine max L.

■Soy Bean Isoflavone：
Tofu, miso, soy source, cooked beans, and so forth are soybean foods Japanese people have been taken for centuries.
A recent epidemiological research revealed that in Japanese people menopausal disorders are only slight and that mortality due to prostate or breast cancer is low.
These facts are considered attributable to the female hormone-like activity of isoflavone, a component of soybean that Japanese eat very often.
For this reason, isoflavone has drawn worldwide attention.
Not tasty, the hypocotyls are often discarded during processing and are therefore rarely eaten in processed food.

■Applications：

Licorice Extract

Food Additives / Sweetener

■Licorice：
Licorice is one of the herbs most often used in Chinese prescriptions.
The Shokanron or Shokan Treatise (200 B.C.) uses licorice in 80 of 113 prescriptions, and the herb appears in some 70% of the 210 prescriptions listed in Popular Chinese Prescriptions.
The efficacy of licorice, however, was virtually ignored except for its detoxification properties when used in combination with various other herbs, as described in old medical documents, therefore the plant's usage tended to be limited to that as an agent to mask or soften the taste of other drugs.
Today licorice is in wide use in various medicines to treat colds, chronic hepatitis and allergies, as well as and in supplement drinks.
Also, it is popular to be used as sweeteners in confectioneries, pickles, processed marine products, and so on, as the sweet property of licorice has the high affinity with salt. Licorice, with wide use in cosmetics as well, has thus penetrated deep into our everyday life, though most of its users are unaware of its presence.

STEVIOSIDE T100 (Stevia extract)

Food Additives / Sweetener

The features of our stevia sweeteners inprocessed foods are as follows：
(1) Low-calorie (only a small amount is necessary because of stevia's strong sweetness)
(2) Refreshing sweetness
(3) Can reduce saltiness (softening the harsh impact of salty foods)
(4) Balances out sourness (produces a mild sourness)
(5) Does not turn brown (does not react with amino acids as do sugars)
(6) Does not cause dental caries
(7) Stable under heat, acids, and alkalis (cooking temperatures and pHs from 2.5 to 9 do not affect the product)
(8) Does not lower freezing point (makes easier to produce iced snacks)
(9) Non-fermenting

A broad spectrum of applications：
(1) In salty foods, including pickles, preserves, soy sauce, miso, and fish meat paste
(2) In soft drinks (low-calorie and non-sugar beverages) and milk beverages
(3) In iced snacks, ice cream, yogurt, jellies, and similar desserts
(4) In canned and bottled fruits and other foods
(5) In snacks, including gums and candies
(6) Table sweeteners
(7) In medical products such as toothpaste

Safety of Stevia sweeteners：
Food additives must be safe since, although in very small amounts, they are consumed each day over a long period of time.
To verify the safety of stevia sweeteners, various safety tests have been conducted by food and nutrition authorities.
In all of these tests our stevia sweeteners have been declared safe.
The following report from Japanese food authorities proves these results:

"Safety Assessment of Existing Natural Food Additives" -- Public Health Science Research Report for Fiscal 1996", supervised by the Food Chemistry Division, Environmental Health Bureau, Ministry of Health and Welfare of Japan Names of existing additives: Stevia extracts

The safety tests conducted were as follows：
1) Single-administration test
2) Repeated-administration and carcinogenecity tests
3) Teratogenecity and propagation tests
4) Mutagenecity tests

Benefits of use：
The sweetness of a stevia-based sweetener varies with the purity of the stevia contents.
The sweetness of so-called "pure" stevia, having a Steviol glycoside content of 80% or higher, is reported to be 200 to 300 times stronger than that of sugar.
It has been confirmed that using stevia together with sugar and similarly isomerized sugar boosts the sweetness.
Stevia sweetener provides a concentrated amount of quality sweetness and the natural origins as a plant product make it safe and healthy.
Our stevia products come in a rich variety, available in purity of stevia extract ranging from 50% to 100% purity and in product forms ranging from powder to granules.
All these products have high water solubility and are stable under many temperature and pH conditions.

■Bilberry：
Bilberry has an impressive bright purple color.
Bilberry's physiological functions were first noted in reports from English air-force pilots during World War II, who found that after eating blueberry jam, they could see the enemy's airplanes very well during night assaults -- even in dim light.
Postwar studies revealed that Bilberry affects the visual cycle and has favorable effects on the eyes.
A number of other physiological functions have also been identified. The particular bilberry extract is currently used in medicine in Europe and health foods in the United States.

■Ginkgo Biloba：
Ginkgo biloba, which is well known in Japan and China, is a gymnosperm having fan-shaped leaves.
The ginkgo is an extremely tough, long-lived tree that dates back about two hundred and fifty million years; it is thus sometimes called a "living fossil."
Like certain other plants, ginkgo has been used for the treatment of lung, heart, and asthma conditions since ancient times, when its chemical components and physiological functions were unknown.
Today, however, many of the ginkgo's chemical components and physiological functions have been clarified.
Ginkgo was first used as a medicine for improvement of angiopathy, dementia, and other diseases in Germany in 1965 and in France in 1974; in Japan, it has yet to be approved as a medicine.
It can also be regarded as a functional food optimal for the stressed, the middle-aged, and the elderly.
Our Ginkgo Biloba Extract is a high- quality product that has been exported to Europe as a medicine and to the United States as a dietary supplement.
For dietary supplement in the forms of foods, soft/tonic drink, confectionery, etc
