Global Standards Achieved: Tokiwa Phytochemical’s Carbon Reduction Targets Certified by SBTi

We are thrilled to share a major milestone in our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability. Tokiwa Phytochemical Co., Ltd., operator of one of the leading plant extraction facilities in the Kanto region, has officially received certification from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for our greenhouse gas reduction targets.

This prestigious certification validates that our climate goals are scientifically grounded and fully aligned with the stringent international standards required to limit global warming.

What is the SBTi?

The SBTi is a renowned international environmental organization that assesses and verifies corporate emissions reduction targets. It ensures that a company’s roadmap meets the global criteria established by the Paris Agreement, specifically aiming to limit the global temperature rise to 1.5°C.

Our Certified Roadmap

Tokiwa Phytochemical submitted an ambitious reduction plan that has now been rigorously vetted and approved:

  ・Base Year: 2022

  ・Target Year: 2031

・Our Commitment: A reduction of 40.2% or more in greenhouse gas emissions compared to the base year, keeping us firmly on the 1.5°C pathway.

Stepping up to International Standards

Guided by our core philosophy of being a “company sustained by plants,” we have long pursued multifaceted environmental management. Our efforts have included:

・Installing solar panels to generate clean energy.

・Implementing carbon-neutral city gas to actively lower our $CO_2$ footprint.

         ・Earning the EcoAction 21 certification.

While we have consistently driven eco-friendly initiatives at a domestic level, this SBTi approval marks a monumental shift. As our team puts it:

“This certification represents a historic first step in shifting our environmental initiatives from domestic standards to recognized international standards.”

We will continue to advance our green strategies and contribute to a sustainable, decarbonized future for our planet. Stay tuned for more updates on our sustainability journey!
